Former US President Donald Trump was found guilty on 34 charges of falsifying documents to adjust the payment to silence the controversial star ahead of the elections in 2016.

Following the verdict, Trump became the first US President to be convicted in a hush-money trial. He was indicted by a 12-member jury after two days of deliberation.

The jury has set sentencing for July 11, a few days before the Republican Party scheduled to nominate Donald Trump for the November 5 elections.

US law allows a maximum of four years in prison for a falsified business crime, and incarceration does not legally prevent the convicted from campaigning for elections and taking office if he were to win. Moreover, he would not sent to jail before sentencing.

Earlier, all convicted had received shorter sentences, including fines and probation for the business crime.

Apart from this, the 77-year-old refuted wrongdoing allegations, while his counsel said that they would plea the court to review the decision.

"It’s a disgrace. And I mean that. Mother Teresa could not beat those charges. But we’ll see. We’ll see how we do," the convicted politician said.

However, the former US President’s supporters were enraged over the conviction and called for riots, revolution and violent retribution on pro-Trump websites.

Following the verdict, several of his supporters said that the conviction was proof that the American political system was broken and that only violent action could save the country.
