European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has proposed imposing sanctions on Israeli ministers amid the ongoing war in Gaza.
According to news agencies, the EU’s proposal includes Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.
The European Commission has also suggested suspending free trade agreements covering Israeli goods because of the conflict in Gaza.
Kallas presented a sanctions package that specifically names Ben-Gvir and Smotrich.
She stressed that the goal of the proposed measures is to alleviate the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
“I want to make it clear that these sanctions are aimed at improving conditions for civilians in Gaza. The war must end, the suffering must stop, and all hostages must be released,” she said.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned Israel’s ground offensive in Gaza City.
