In a disturbing incident in India’s Maharashtra, a Muslim man was physically assaulted by a mob simply for walking around in his own home wearing a towel. The shocking video of the assault went viral.
The brutal attack, spurred by what appears to be an irrational and baseless reason, a man wearing a towel in his own home, highlights the alarming rise of hate against Muslims in India.
The victim, identified as Mustaqeem, was filmed through the window of another building while he roamed in his flat wearing a towel.
His balcony, which was open, made him visible to passersby. Mustaqeem was seen cleaning his clothes and shoes on the balcony, unaware that someone was filming him.
The suspects violated his privacy and, in a shocking act, proceeded to assault him mercilessly.
A video circulating on social media showed Mustaqeem, half-naked and wearing only a towel, being surrounded by a violent mob.
The video was shared on X by Indian journalists, but further details about the incident, its aftermath, and whether any legal action was taken remain unavailable at this time.
This incidents highlight the increasing communal polarisation in India under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s rule. Critics argue that the BJP's policies have emboldened far-right elements, further marginalising India's Muslim community and fueling interfaith conflicts
During his campaign, Modi referred to Muslims as "infiltrators" and "those who have many children." In one speech, he framed the election as a choice between "Ram Rajya" (the rule of the Hindu god Ram) and "Vote Jihad."
