The Iranian military has responded to remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, stating that the United States has seriously undermined the security of global energy transportation by interfering in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement issued from Tehran, Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said that the cooperation of certain countries in the region has, unfortunately, increased the risk of the conflict spreading further.
Iran's armed forces warned the United States against attempting to interfere in the Strait of Hormuz and threatened retaliatory action against any parties supporting Washington.
Zolfaqari underlined that Iran will neither allow nor tolerate any U.S. involvement in the administrative affairs of the Strait of Hormuz.
He further stated that any form of cooperation with the United States by other countries would be regarded as participation in a war against Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity, warning that such a conflict could engulf the entire region.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States would take control of the Strait of Hormuz and oversee security in the strategically important waterway, adding that Washington would be compensated for providing its protection.
Speaking to the media, Trump said, “We are taking control of the Strait of Hormuz. We will become its guardians, and we will be paid for monitoring and protecting it.”
Commenting on Iran, the U.S. president accused Tehran of violating a previous agreement. “We had a deal with Iran, but they broke it. They are a group of bad people,” he said.
