Kabul descended into chaos on Thursday night after two explosions rocked the capital around 9:50 pm local time, according to reports. The Afghan government confirmed the blasts but refrained from sharing any further details.

Although there has been little confirmation at the official level, hundreds of social media posts have claimed that a notorious terrorist, leading a militant group from Afghan soil and orchestrating cross-border attacks on Pakistani forces, was killed in the explosions.

“The sound of an explosion was heard in the city of Kabul. However, no one should worry; everything is fine. The investigation into the incident is underway, and no report of any damage has been received so far,” government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid stated in a post on X.

So far, the Afghan authorities have not clarified the nature of the blasts. Meanwhile, speculation continues to build that key terrorists hiding in the capital may have been targeted in the explosions.

On Thursday, Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi arrived in India on his first official visit, a move analysts view as significant amid widening regional rifts in South Asia over terrorism and instability.

Although New Delhi has yet to recognise Afghanistan’s current government, Muttaqi is scheduled to hold talks with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on political, economic, and trade cooperation to strengthen bilateral ties.
