The historic Al-Fas'h Mosque, located 4.5 km from Madinah and just 800 meters from the battlefield of Uhud, has been restored by Saudi authorities to preserve and promote the Kingdom’s Islamic heritage.
The mosque is believed to be the place where the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions prayed during the Battle of Uhud, which is why it is also known as Uhud Mosque and sometimes referred to as Sha’b Al-Jerar Mosque.
“The remnants of Al-Fas'h Mosque, enclosed by a roughly one-meter-high stone wall on three sides, measure six meters in length and four meters in width,” Arab News quoted a historian as saying.
The mosque features a rectangular prayer space aligned with a mihrab made of red bricks, giving it a distinct yet simple architectural style.
Built with black stone, the structure has stood firm for centuries, undergoing multiple restoration and preservation efforts by Saudi heritage authorities.
The latest restoration was carried out in line with King Salman’s vision to promote Saudi Arabia’s historical heritage globally.
As part of the renovation, the Saudi Heritage Commission has introduced several new enhancements, including a wooden roof, yellow natural stone flooring, seating arrangements, and informative signs to guide visitors.
