Sheikh Abdul Wahab Al-Shaibi has become the new guardian of the Holy Kaaba, one of Islam's most sacred sites.

Since the time of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the key of the Kaaba has remained with the Shaibi tribe, a tradition maintained by the Saudi government.

After the conquest of Makkah in 630 AD, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) entrusted the key of the door of the sacred place to the family of Al-Shaibi tribe.

Following the passing of Dr Saleh bin Zain Al-Abidin Al-Shaibi, the previous guardian of the Holy Kaaba, the key has been handed over to Sheikh Abdul Wahab Al-Shaibi.

"It is an honour for me. I request all of you to pray that I can serve the house of Allah in a good way," he said while talking to the local media.

Sheikh Abdul Wahab Al-Shaibi is the 110th successor of Uthman bin Talha, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad (May Allah be pleased with him), and the eldest member of the Banu al-Shaibi.
