On Monday, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) described an "Iranian drone attack" against vessels belonging to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) traversing through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a statement from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the event is considered a "blatant breach" of Security Council resolutions that emphasize freedom of navigation and the prohibition against attacks on any civilian ship or disruption of international maritime passage. The statement further noted that two drones had been involved in this operation.
It was reported by ADNOC's Maritime Energy Logistics department that the vessel, Barakah, was empty when attacked by the two drones.
"The UAE has further reiterated the need for Iran to refrain from undertaking such attacks, committing to a complete and unconditional halt of hostilities, and ensuring the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz," said the foreign ministry.
According to the foreign ministry, using the strait and targeting commercial ships would be acts of piracy committed by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, directly posing a threat to the security and stability of the region and global energy supply lines.
The UAE called on Iran to halt such actions, end hostilities, and ensure the full and unconditional reopening of the strait to safeguard regional security and global trade stability.
