United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said that Gaza has turned into a "slaughterhouse" as a result of Israel obstructing aid deliveries and failing to meet its clear responsibilities.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Guterres stated, "It has been over a month, and not a single drop of aid has reached Gaza — no food, no fuel, no medicine, no commercial goods. Nothing is entering Gaza. With the suspension of aid, the gates to horrors in Gaza have swung open once again."
Quoting the Geneva Conventions, Guterres emphasized that it is the duty of the occupying power to provide food and medical assistance to civilians.
"Today, that is not happening. No humanitarian aid is entering Gaza," he asserted.
The UN chief also criticized Israel’s newly proposed aid distribution mechanism, calling it an attempt to restrict the flow of relief.
"We will not be part of any arrangement that does not fully comply with humanitarian principles," he made clear.

Guterres further expressed concern over the situation in the West Bank, warning that if it too descends into conditions similar to Gaza, the crisis will deepen further.
It is worth noting that Israel’s military agency, COGAT, has claimed to have proposed a new system to the UN and aid agencies to monitor and control humanitarian supplies, allegedly to ensure that aid reaches civilians and does not fall into Hamas’s hands.
However, a UN aid official stated last week that there is no evidence of aid being misused.
