The world's oldest cat, Rosie, died at the age of 33 in the UK. Her owner, Lila Brisset, mourned the loss of the fluffy tortoise-shell, who was born on June 1, 1991.
Rosie passed away at her owner’s home in Norwich, UK. Despite being the oldest known living cat, she was not officially recognised as the world's oldest at the time of her death.
According to Guinness World Records, the title is held by Flossie, a 28-year-old cat from England.
In June 2024, Rosie celebrated her 33rd birthday, reaching the equivalent of 152 human years.
The 73-year-old Lila told the media that she deeply misses her pet, saying Rosie had been unwell for several days and “one day she just walked into the hallway, laid down, and passed away.”
“There are so many wonderful memories, and I’m grateful for the time we had together,” she added.
Lila adopted Rosie in the 1990s after a cat rescue approached her. Rosie’s previous family had to give her up because their daughter was allergic.
During her last years, Rosie stayed inside Lila’s home, peacefully resting and eating near the window.
According to records, the world’s longest-lived cat was Creme Puff from Austin, Texas. Born in 1967, she lived until 2005, passing away at the age of 38.
