Maria Branyas Morera, the world's oldest person from Spain, has passed away at the age of 117 years and 168 days, Guinness World Records confirmed on Tuesday.
According to GWR officials, Morera died on August 19 in a nursing home in Catalonia, where she had lived for the past two decades.
Maria is survived by two children, 11 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
In an old interview with GWR, she had attributed her longevity to maintaining peace of mind, nurturing good relationships with family and friends, and avoiding toxic people in her life.
Born on March 4, 1907, in San Francisco, USA, Maria emigrated to Spain with her parents at the age of eight.
Maria married Dr John Moret at the age of 24 and they had three children together. The couple worked jointly to treat wounded soldiers during the Spanish Civil War between 1936 to 1939.
Maria's remarkable life and legacy will be remembered as an inspiration to many.
