A total of 225 days out of the 365 days in a year are lost to holidays and breaks in Pakistan's education system, leaving students with only 140 days of academic activity.
The global average for academic days per year is around 220-240 days.
According to an analysis by Dialogue Pakistan, the country's education calendar is marred by excessive holidays, including summer vacation, winter break, and various religious and national holidays.
This stark reality puts Pakistan far behind international standards, where countries like Japan, South Korea, and China prioritise education with minimal holidays.
The excessive number of holidays in Pakistan not only hampers the academic progress of students but also affects their chances of competing with global peers.
Education policymakers are urged to revisit the holiday structure and align it with international standards to ensure a more productive and competitive education system in Pakistan.
