An Indian student has been arrested and deported from the United States after being discovered for falsifying documents to secure a full scholarship.

The student, Aryan Anand, confessed in a now-deleted Reddit post that he had fabricated various documents, including transcripts, essays, and even a false death certificate for his father, who is actually alive and residing in India, according to an Indian news outlet.

Anand, who was enrolled at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, boasted about constructing “his life and career on lies” in the post, which was later reported by a Reddit moderator.

In addition to fabricating documents, Anand created a fake email address to communicate with the US university, pretending to be his school principal to secure the scholarship.

After his revelations, the Reddit moderator initiated a background check on Aryan Anand and discovered his enrollment at Lehigh University.

The anonymous moderator then contacted Lehigh University, which collaborated with local police to launch an investigation.

Anand was arrested on April 30 and charged with forgery and theft of services.

Though he could have faced up to 20 years in prison under US criminal law, university officials requested that he be deported to India following his expulsion from the institution.
