Despite the shutdown of plants due to political and economic uncertainty in the country, auto sales witnessed a jump of 36 percent to 17,288 units in the first two months of fiscal year 2024-25.

The data shared by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) showed the sale of light commercial vehicles (LCVs), pickups, and jeeps have surged by 1 percent to 8,699 units in August compared to 8,589 units in July.

Despite keeping the plant shut from 6-8 August due to the shortage of parts, Indus Motors sold 2,129 units in August, showing a jump of 28 percent month-on-month (MoM) and 38 percent year-on-year (YoY).

During two months of FY2024-25, Indus Motors’ sales rose by 30 percent to 3,793 units, compared to 2,916 in the same period last year.

On the other hand, Pak Suzuki Motors Company experienced a decline of 18 percent in MoM and 14 percent in YoY to 3,653 units in August due to the plant closure from August 1-23.

However, Pak Suzuki sales rose 21 percent to 8,123 units in 2MFY25, compared to 6,712 in the corresponding year.

During August, Honda Altas car sales went up by 23 percent to 1,148 units MoM and 70 percent YoY. The car manufacturers recorded a 48 percent increase in sales during July-August by selling 2,079 units from 1,168 FY2023-24.

The sales of Sazgar Engineering Work jumped up to 941 units after an increase of 14 percent MoM and 216 percent YoY.

Hyundai Nishat sales jacked up by 13 percent to 661 unit MoM in August and swelled by 15 percent YoY. During two months of FY25, sales witnessed a decline of 7 percent to 1,248 units from 1,347 in the same period of last year.

Similarly, three-wheeler sales jumped to 9 percent MoM and 43 percent YoY after selling 2,601 units in August, while two months of sales contracted to 4,997 units with a surge of 68 percent from 2,981 units in 2MFY24.

The statistics showed a 1 percent decline in truck sales MoM but an 87 percent increase YoY, while in July-August, it doubled with an increase in sales by 68 percent to 500 units from 298 in the same period last fiscal year.
