Karachi: Despite crowded markets, traders in Karachi have expressed disappointment over sluggish sales during the Eid ul Fitr 2025 season.
According to Atiq Mir, President of the All Karachi Traders Union, sales were 25 to 30 per cent lower compared to last year. Despite a 40 to 50 per cent increase in available stock, only Rs. 15 billion worth of goods were sold.
He revealed that 60 to 70 per cent of Eid-related stock remained unsold in warehouses. Recalling 2015 as the best year, he noted that traders had recorded Rs. 70 billion in sales at the time.
Mir lamented that Karachi’s Eid sales potential is around Rs. 100 billion, but over the last decade, sales have plummeted from Rs. 70 billion to just Rs. 15 billion.

He attributed the decline to low purchasing power, forcing consumers to limit spending on essentials like clothing, shoes, jewelry, and decoration items.
Over 200 markets in Karachi’s commercial districts had anticipated the usual Eid shopping spree, but sales failed to meet expectations.
