Addressing a press conference on Monday, Interior Minister Mohsin Navi sparked criticism over his controversial remarks about law enforcement agencies using force against protesters, following which several PTI demonstrators were injured in alleged firing incidents.
“How long does it take? The Rangers only need to fire for five minutes. After that, not a single person will remain there. However, we are trying to be patient,” Naqvi remarked.
“At least 20 unarmed protesters have been sh”t by the paramiliatry forces tonight, with the number of casualties rising,” PTI’s official account on X stated.
Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that the govt has been warning in advance that if forced, it will take strict measures.
"We are repeatedly urging restraint and emphasising not to compel us to cross the red line."
Earlier, a Rangers personnel was shot at 26 Chungi and has been shifted to the hospital with injuries.
"Their aim has always been to create chaos,” he added.
The Interior Minister warned that if protesters resort to violence, law enforcement will respond forcefully, asserting, "Do not push us to cross the red line." He maintained that any damage caused by protesters will be their responsibility.
Naqvi also highlighted that foreign dignitaries are currently visiting Islamabad. “We had advised applying for permission to hold the rally in Sangjani. No one has ever been permitted to organise a gathering at D-Chowk. Previously, they went to jail twice, held meetings, and even secured approvals from there,” he added.
The Federal Interior Minister noted that the Islamabad High Court had instructed the government to engage with the PTI.
“The Chief Commissioner has contacted them, and permission has been granted for a rally in Sangjani. Barrister Gauhar has visited the jail twice regarding this matter, and there are reports of approval being obtained. However, we have not yet received a final response from the PTI,” he stated.
