Meanwhile, authorities have detained approximately 1,257 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers, including members of the National and Provincial Assemblies, in Multan Division, sources revealed on Sunday.
Over 200 workers en route to Islamabad for a planned protest were reportedly apprehended near Qadirpur Raan. Key PTI leaders among the detainees include Zain Qureshi, Amir Doggar, Nadeem Qureshi, Waseem Badozai, Moinuddin Qureshi, and Rana Tufail Noon, according to party sources.
The arrests occurred as PTI members and supporters were preparing to lead a convoy from outside a local hotel in Multan toward Islamabad.
The developments come amid escalating political tensions and PTI’s call for nationwide protests spearheaded by party founder Imran Khan.
In preparation for the protests, authorities have sealed entry and exit points of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, with heavy security deployed across both cities. Overnight, police conducted raids targeting PTI members and workers in an effort to curtail the planned demonstrations.
The crackdown marks a significant escalation in the ongoing standoff between PTI and the government, raising concerns over the growing political unrest in the country.
