Court discharges both hands disabled PTI worker arrested during August 5 protest

A court has discharged a man with disabilities from a case registered in connection with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest held on August 5.

According to the details of the case, the man was among several PTI workers arrested during the protest. The FIR alleged that protesters were carrying sticks, batons and slingshots during the demonstration.

The arrested workers were produced before the court on August 6, when the court granted a one-day remand, including for the disabled man. They were presented before the court again, after which the court discharged the man from the case.

Speaking to media, the man said he had attended the August 5 protest to express solidarity with PTI founder Imran Khan.

He said that after participating in the demonstration, he was returning home when police stopped and arrested him and others on allegations of creating disorder.

He claimed that police searched both him and their vehicle but found nothing. Despite this, he said, a case was registered against them and they were sent to jail before being presented in court and placed on one-day remand.

Explaining his physical condition, the man said he is unable even to perform simple tasks such as swatting away a fly with his hands, questioning how he could have posed a threat to anyone during the protest.

The court’s decision to discharge him means he will no longer face proceedings in the case based on the allegations cited against him in the FIR.
