The Dumper and Oil Tankers Association extended its special thanks to Inspector General Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon and the Sindh government over the arrest of Mutahida Qaumi Movement Haqiqi (MQM) founder Afaq Ahmed, who had announced a protest against the daytime operation of heavy traffic in Karachi amid a rise in traffic accidents.

“I extend a special thanks to IG Sindh and his entire team who arrested an individual, attempting to disturb peace in Karachi once again by using youth,” said association's president Liaquat Mehsud.

He accused Afaq Ahmed of provoking youth against dumpers, as the MQM-H founder directed his party workers to take action against the heavy vehicles in the city that claimed the lives of at least 100 motorcyclists within 40 days of 2025.

He also gave the provincial government a deadline to restrict their operations to determined hours.

Following the statement of Afaq Ahmed, the dumper association had announced a protest while describing motorcyclists as responsible for 98% of accidents and claimed that only 2% of accidents happened due to the negligence of dumper drivers.

However, Karachi witnessed citizens’ action against dumpers and heavy vehicles after passing the deadline, prompting the police to arrest the MQM-H founder from his residence in Karachi’s Defence.

A spokesperson in MQM-H stated that soon after the press conference, at least 10 to 15 police mobiles cordoned off his residence and a station house officer entered the bungalow asking Afaq Ahmed to come with them.

He quoted Afaq Ahmed, saying, “OK, I am ready to go.”

According to sources, he was arrested in a case registered at Landhi police station, where protesters allegedly set a truck on fire after his statement.

The dumper association attributed Ahmed's statement to the deterioration of peace in Karachi, stating that “he tried to evoke Karachi’s youth to disturb the peace and law and order situation in the city.”

He appreciated the Sindh government, police, and law enforcement agencies to take action against him.

Notably, the total number of fatalities in traffic accidents in Karachi rose to 100 so far this year, highlighting the growing concern over road safety in the city.
