The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has taken journalist Farhan Malick into custody for allegedly violating the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), sources confirmed.

Malick, a former news editor at a private news channel, was reportedly arrested after he appeared at the FIA office for a hearing. His mobile phones were also confiscated during the process.

A statement on X, shared by Malick’s YouTube channel, claimed that FIA officials had visited the channel’s office the previous evening without prior notice, allegedly harassing staff and summoning Malick for questioning.

The post further alleged that he was arrested after being kept waiting for hours.

The statement condemned the arrest, calling it an act of intimidation against independent journalism and raising concerns about press freedom.

It also demanded immediate clarity on Malick’s detention and urged authorities to protect journalists from unjust harassment.

FIA has yet to issue an official statement regarding the arrest.
