The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested another suspect linked to human trafficking following the tragic ship capsizing incident in Greek waters, in which over 40 Pakistanis went missing.
An FIA spokesperson said they apprehended the accused, Saleem Akhtar, a resident of Gujarat, who is reportedly involved in sending Pakistanis to Europe through illegal means.
"The suspect was a key member of a notorious international gang involved in the harrowing business of human trafficking," said the spokesperson, adding, “He has taken Rs2.8 million from deceased, Rehman Ali, on the pretext of sending him abroad.”
The suspect sent Rehman Ali to Libya, and then he attempted to transfer him to Greece by the ill-fated ship that sank off the Greek island of Gavdos, south of Crete.
Abdul Qadir Qamar, Director of Gujranwala Zone, FIA, stated that raids were being conducted against those who were involved in the ship capsizing incident, and the rest of the suspects would be arrested soon.
He added that all resources were being utilised, and special teams were formed for cracking down, “no one will be allowed to play with the lives of innocent individuals.”
The Director expressed hope that the culprits will be brought to justice and punished based on solid evidence.
Following the directive of DG FIA Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir, actions were taken against the individuals involved in human trafficking related to the recent Greek boat accident.
