Fly Jinnah, a low-cost airline focused on domestic routes, has received approval from Bangladesh to operate direct flights between Karachi and Dhaka.
The approval follows an announcement by Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Mohammad Iqbal Hussain, last week, indicating that direct flights between the two countries would commence in the coming months.
Additionally, cargo flights between Dhaka, Karachi, and Lahore are expected to begin soon, enhancing trade and business exchanges.
Bangladeshi media outlet The Daily Star reported that the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has granted approval for Fly Jinnah's proposal.
CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan confirmed the approval, stating that Fly Jinnah will now appoint a General Sales Agent (GSA).
Once the airline requests slots and frequencies, they will be provided.
Indian media outlet also reported that the establishment of direct air links between the two countries would follow the launch of a direct shipping route between Chittagong and Karachi.
The approval marks a significant step in improving bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan, two countries that were once united but separated after the 1971 civil war.
Recent months have seen a thaw in ties between Dhaka and Islamabad, following the political changes in Bangladesh, with increasing trade and cooperation between the two nations.
