Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan on Saturday honoured Pakistan javelin ace Arshad Nadeem with a car and a cheque of Rs2 million.

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP0 leader welcomed the national hero at the Governor House in Lahore.

"The whole nation is celebrating his success," said Governor Punjab while addressing media alongside Arshad.

"Arshad Nadeem's success is being appreciated in every part of the country, we expect him to break more records."

Arshad Nadeem expressed his gratitude towards Mr Saleem for hosting a reception in his honour.

"I thank the Governor Punjab and the entire nation and thanks to Allah that the whole country is honouring me," the 27-year-old athlete said.

"The respect given by the nation is the greatest honour for any athlete. I wish that the nation remembers me in their prayers and In Shaa Allah [God willing] I will achieve more new successes for my country," he added.

The sportsman made the country proud on August 8 when he threw a javelin at the record-breaking spot of 92.97 metres at the Paris Olympics 2024.

The throw made him able to end Pakistan's 40-year wait for an individual gold medal at the Summer Games.

Following the achievement, Arshad was showered with announcements of cash prizes and rewards from politicians and celebrities.

President Asif Ali Zardari will confer Hilal-e-Imtiaz, the second-highest civilian award, on the national hero for his outstanding performance at the World Games.
