The Sindh government has imposed a daytime ban on dumpers entering Karachi to reduce road accidents and improve traffic flow.

The dumpers will be allowed between 11:00 PM–6:00 AM.

The decision was taken following an emergency meeting led by Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Hyder Shah, attended by senior officials, including the Inspector General Sindh Police, Commissioner Karachi, and DIG Traffic.

The meeting addressed concerns over rising road accidents involving heavy vehicles and poor enforcement of traffic laws.

As part of new safety measures, the government has directed that all heavy vehicles and drivers undergo mandatory physical verification to ensure compliance with traffic regulations.

The Transport Department will issue QR Code-certified certificates for vehicles operating within the city.

Additionally, the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board has been instructed to shift its operations to nighttime within three months, while the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board’s water tankers must undergo inspections within a month.

To enhance road safety, the traffic police have been tasked with strictly enforcing helmet laws for motorcyclists and launching a media awareness campaign.

Traffic fines will be increased fourfold to deter violations, and reckless drivers will face FIRs and legal action instead of just fines.

The Chief Secretary also announced plans to implement a Vehicle Inspection and Certification System (VICS) across Sindh to ensure all vehicles meet safety standards.

In addition, the Traffic Engineering Bureau will be revived to develop long-term traffic management solutions.

Highlighting accident statistics, officials noted that motorcycles make up 65% of vehicles in Karachi, and motorcyclists account for 55% of all road accidents.

In response, the DIG Traffic has been directed to improve traffic conditions within a month and enforce road safety regulations more strictly.
