A superintendent at a government college in Karachi has gone on the run after allegedly misappropriating more than Rs 900,000 collected from students as examination fees.

The funds were gathered from 81 female students at the Government Degree College for Women, Nazimabad, as payment for their upcoming exams.

According to the FIR lodged by College Principal Shehla Bashir at the Rizvia police station, the suspect—who had been entrusted with the collection—failed to deposit the fees with the bank as required.

Instead, he reportedly pocketed the money and disappeared.

The principal told police that the superintendent has not been seen at the college since January 25 and was the only person handling the cash. Authorities are now working to track him down.

In the meantime, students, some of whom were scheduled to take exams as early as Saturday, are facing significant challenges.

One student explained that despite having paid the fees, they had not received their admit cards.

However, the college dean reassured that most students have now received their admit cards with help from the board management, and the rest would receive theirs by the end of the day.

It has also been revealed that some students paid extra money to the superintendent without receiving a voucher, despite clear instructions for a proper transaction record.

Police are continuing their investigation into the matter and are making efforts to arrest the fleeing official.
