Karachi likely to sizzle at 40°C from tomorrow: PMD

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that a heatwave is expected to hit Karachi starting Sunday.

The temperature may rise up to 40 degrees Celsius, which is 4 to 6 degrees above normal.

According to senior meteorologist Anjum Nazir Zaigham, due to the shift of a high-pressure area away from upper and central Sindh, sea breezes may halt in Karachi, intensifying the heat.

However, a weather system moving towards the southern regions of the province from today (Saturday) may help ease the ongoing heatwave in other parts of Sindh.

In its advisory, the Met Office urged citizens, especially children, women, and the elderly, to take precautions — avoid direct sun exposure and stay hydrated.

On Friday, the maximum temperature recorded in Karachi was 34.3°C. For Saturday, the temperature is expected to rise between 36°C and 38°C with hot and humid conditions likely.

Meanwhile, extreme heat persisted in other parts of Sindh. Dadu and Shaheed Benazirabad recorded the highest temperatures at 46.5°C, followed by Padidan at 46°C, Larkana at 45.6°C, Mohenjo Daro and Khairpur at 45.5°C, Sukkur and Rohri at 45°C, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas at 42°C, and Badin at 39°C.
