KARACHI: A hearing in the Mir Raza murder case was held before a judicial magistrate at the City Court, where police submitted an amended initial report following changes to the case.

According to the police report, a medical report issued on 8 August indicated the possibility that Mir Raza had been murdered. Police subsequently added charges relating to murder and concealment of evidence to the case.

The report stated that Raza’s grave was exhumed under the supervision of a magistrate. Police said the additional charges were incorporated into the case following the exhumation and the preliminary examination of the remains.

According to the police account, Mir Raza returned home from his shop on the night of 28 July. He told his mother that he would visit another family home in PECHS before returning.

Police said Raza went to the second residence at around 4am. When his family attempted to contact him later, his mobile phone was found to be switched off.

The police report said the family had initially registered a case of kidnapping following his disappearance.

A new investigation committee has since been formed to conduct a fresh inquiry into the case, according to police.

The judicial magistrate has made the initial police report part of the official court record.
