The Pakistani government has announced a compensation package of Rs5 million for the families of missing persons, a significant step in addressing a long-standing and sensitive issue.

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar made the announcement during a media briefing in Islamabad, emphasizing the government's commitment to resolving the matter that has plagued the country for years.

Minister Tarar attributed the issue of missing persons largely to the aftermath of the Afghan war and the subsequent rise of terrorism in the region.

He noted that Pakistan had been used as a pawn by global powers, which contributed to the country's current predicament. The minister acknowledged the immense suffering endured by the families of the missing, stating that the government recognizes the emotional and financial toll this issue has taken on them.

To tackle the problem, the government has been actively working to recover missing persons and has established special committees for this purpose. These efforts have been consistent across different administrations, including the previous Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government and the current caretaker government.

Minister Tarar further explained that a comprehensive report had been compiled after thorough consultations with intelligence agencies and state institutions. This report, which received cabinet approval, serves as the foundation for the government's assistance to the affected families.

The compensation package of Rs5 million per family is part of a broader initiative to provide relief and support to those who have suffered due to the unresolved disappearances of their loved ones. The announcement underscores the government's ongoing efforts to address a critical human rights issue and bring some measure of relief to the families involved.
