Youm-e-Takbeer is being observed today (May 28) across the country to commemorate historic nuclear tests conducted by Pakistan on this day 26 years ago.

In 1998, Pakistan took the decision as a response and in self-defence to the nuclear tests accompanying hostile posturing by its neighbour, India.

Pakistan carried out five successful tests of its own in Balochistan's Chaghi followed by another one in Kharan on May 30.

Following the successful tests, Pakistan became the seventh nuclear-armed country in the world and the first in the Islamic world.

In a statement issued on PML-N's official account, the premier said that the day "reminds the Pakistani nation of unity to make the defence of the country impregnable".

"On this day, the entire nation decided for the integrity of this country that there would be no compromise by accepting any kind of external pressure on national defence," he added.

PM Shehbaz further said that Youm-e-Takbeer is a day to renew the pledge to always thwart the nefarious intentions of external and internal enemies, "who want to endanger the country through the politics of anarchy".

On the occasion, Services Chiefs and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff extended warm felicitations to the nation on the 26 anniversary of "Youm-e-Takbeer".

The Inter-Services Public Relations, in a statement, said the historic achievement "established credible minimum deterrence and restored the balance of power in the region".

"The Armed Forces and the nation pay tribute to the unwavering dedication and selfless sacrifices of all those who contributed to this remarkable feat, achieved against overwhelming odds. The scientists, engineers, and officials who devoted their lives to realizing this dream rightly deserve the gratitude and admiration of the nation and its Armed Forces," it added.

Pakistan's armed forces reaffirmed their unwavering resolve to defend the motherland, protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and ensure the nation's security at all times and at any cost.
