The Sindh government on Saturday imposed section 144 of the CrPC across the province to ensure security during the ten days of Muharram.
The provincial home department has issued a notification in this regard.
According to the notification, new mourning processions, rallies, majalis, and jalsa without prior permission have been banned.
At the same time, no more than five people can gather except if they are taking part in Muharram processions, majlis, and tazia.
Pillion riding has also been banned on Muharram 9 and 10 in the metropolis.
It will not be applicable to journalists, persons with disabilities, the elderly, women, security institutions personnel and children, the notification read.
The notification warned that the ban was placed under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and action will be taken against violators.
The department has also barred people from carrying arms/ammunition of all types during the period.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to meet on July 7 to sight the Muharram moon.
