PM Shehbaz honours GB shepherds who saved hundreds from GLOF disaster

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to three shepherds from Gilgit-Baltistan whose timely warning helped save hundreds of lives during a recent Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF).

The Prime Minister personally met Wasyiat Khan, Insaar, and Muhammad Khan in Islamabad and presented each of them with a cheque worth Rs2.5 million as recognition of their heroic act.

“These three men are the heroes of Gilgit-Baltistan, and the entire nation is proud of them,” the Prime Minister said.

“Their vigilance and sense of responsibility in the face of a natural disaster enabled the safe evacuation of villagers and prevented a major tragedy.”

He further stated that the Ministry of Climate Change is working on an early warning system in Gilgit-Baltistan to provide timely alerts and minimize risks during such emergencies.

The shepherds, in turn, thanked the Prime Minister for the recognition and expressed gratitude to Allah Almighty for granting them the opportunity to help save precious lives.
