The Punjab government has announced a crackdown on the chiefs of the beggar mafia, the provincial spokesperson said.

The move aims to prevent the kidnapping of children and women and protect their rights.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz-led provincial government has decided to establish special barracks in jails to punish the leaders of the beggar mafia.

According to the Home Department spokesperson, each designated section will initially imprison 100-200 mafia chiefs, with more to be set up in large cities as needed.

The government is also considering amendments to legislation to bring mafia leaders under the law and punish them.

The law will target those involved in kidnapping and forcing people to beg.

An official said that once the law is in place, those responsible for oppressing innocent children and women and coercing them into begging will face severe punishment.

Under the direction of CM Maryam Nawaz, the authority will launch a province-wide crackdown on the beggar mafia.

The Punjab government is taking a comprehensive approach to address organised begging and protect the rights and welfare of its citizens.
