Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has ordered the provincial police department to provide bulletproof vehicles and jackets to cops.

The decision was made during a review meeting chaired by CM Maryam, where she directed police officers to ensure fool-proof security arrangements on Eid Milad-ul-Nabi (PBUH) and to engage with scholars.

The meeting also saw a proposal to increase the number of provincial border posts, which was approved along with the allocation of bulletproof vehicles and jackets for police personnel.

Nawaz Sharif's daughter also approved the grant of Rs1 billion to purchase bulletproof vehicles and jackets for the cops.

Moreover, the use of social media by on-duty police personnel was banned to minimise distractions and enhance focus on their duties.

"Whatever needs to be done for the protection of the people will be done," she vowed in the meeting.

"Action should be taken against criminals and anti-social elements without discrimination, and the police should develop the capability of pre-emptive action without waiting for the crime to be committed," CM added.

Maryam Nawaz also directed that those who attack police checkposts should receive a strong response.

The measures aim to enhance the security and effectiveness of the Punjab police force.
