For the first time in the history of Gilgit-Baltistan, a woman police officer has been posted as the assistant inspector general (AIG).

Tahira Yasub became the first woman in the provincial police force to achieve this honour.

She was conferred the rank of AIG by the Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Haji Gulbar Khan on Friday.

The ceremony to honour Yasub was organised at the provincial police headquarters in the mountainous region.

Minister for Social Welfare Dilshad Bano and Inspector General Police (IGP) GB Afzal Mehmood Butt also attended the event.

Yasub said that she would work towards the protection of the rights of women, transgender persons and children after assuming the charge of AIG.
