Facebook recently took down a women-exclusive community in Pakistan with more than 300,000 members, which served as a platform for candid discussions on taboo subjects.
Established in 2013, Soul Sisters Pakistan fostered dialogues on delicate matters such as sexuality, divorce, and domestic abuse, extending solidarity to its members.
The group's creator, Kanwal Ahmed, expressed disappointment at its removal, attributing it to a vague "intellectual property violation" as stated by Facebook.
For numerous women, the group provided a sanctuary to seek guidance and solidarity, particularly on topics often shunned in Pakistani society.
While critics had previously accused the group of challenging societal norms, it remained an essential support network for many women.
The deletion underscores apprehensions regarding online censorship in Pakistan, where platforms like TikTok and YouTube have encountered bans due to content-related concerns.
