A 150-year-old historic banyan tree that fell during recent monsoon rains in Karachi has been successfully replanted following a two-day rescue operation, according to the Sindh Forest Department.

The tree, which collapsed due to strong winds near Qasr-e-Naz during heavy rainfall, was carefully relocated to a nearby suitable location using cranes.

The operation was carried out on the special instructions of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

Officials reported that the roots of the ancient tree had suffered damage due to fungal and termite infestation, triggered by water deficiency. The Chief Minister was briefed that the tree has now begun a "new chapter of life."

In addition to the banyan tree, the rescue operation also preserved nearby neem and kamini trees.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah praised the efforts of the forest department’s rescue team, calling the restoration of the historic tree a significant step in climate preservation.

He described the banyan as a symbol of connection between the past and the present.

The Chief Minister also urged the youth to recognize the importance of historical trees and remain committed to their protection.
