Karachi: A large fire broke out on Monday at a used clothing (landa) factory located inside the Export Processing Zone in Landhi, causing panic in the surrounding area.

Thick black smoke from the blaze could be seen from several kilometres away.

According to initial reports, the fire spread rapidly due to a large stock of highly flammable clothing stored inside the factory.

Within a short time, a major portion of the building was engulfed in flames.

After receiving the alert, several fire brigade vehicles and Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the site and began efforts to control the fire. Firefighters said their main priority was to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby factories and industrial units.

Rescue teams were also working to secure the area as a precaution.

So far, no casualties or injuries have been reported. However, officials fear heavy financial losses as a large quantity of stored clothing is believed to have been destroyed in the fire.

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed. Authorities said an investigation has been launched and a full assessment of the damage will be carried out once the fire is completely extinguished.

The incident once again highlights the frequent fire outbreaks in Karachi’s industrial areas, often linked to electrical faults or poor safety arrangements. Firefighting operations were ongoing at the time of reporting.
