KARACHI: The father of Ibrahim, a young boy who tragically lost his life after falling into an open manhole in Karachi's Nipa, shared his heart-wrenching memories and ongoing efforts to prevent similar accidents.

Speaking to Dialogue Pakistan, Nabeel, Ibrahim’s father, described the moment that changed their lives: “It was an unimaginable shock… even today, I have not been able to forget my son. We had gone shopping for winter clothes when Ibrahim fell back into the manhole.”

He spoke about the aftermath of the tragedy, recalling the impact on his wife: “Ibrahim’s mother sometimes could not bear it, wandered around the house and struggled to sleep.”

“Everyone got involved in politics, but I have acted according to my own conscience. I made sure to open and cover the well responsibly.”

Highlighting his ongoing safety initiatives, Nabeel added, “Recently, I took similar precautions outside Shah Faisal Family Park. When people come, I make sure they are safe. I will continue working for the safety of Karachi so that no child suffers like Ibrahim did.”

Reflecting on his grief, he said, “Whenever I visit the graveyard, I feel like going to be with him… all this pain will eventually end. Ibrahim could have been saved if help had arrived in time.”

He also acknowledged the support of the local community: “Even the neighbors came forward to offer condolences.”
