LHC slams police over viral head-shaving video of kite flyers

LAHORE : The Lahore High Court has taken strong exception to the public humiliation of suspects involved in kite flying and aerial firing, whose heads were shaved and the video was widely circulated on social media.

During the hearing, Justice Ali Zia Bajwa expressed concern over the incident and summoned a detailed report from the Punjab Inspector General of Police.

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran and DIG Security appeared before the court and acknowledged the misconduct.

Justice Bajwa warned that if such incidents happen again, the concerned DPO will be held directly responsible. A video of the suspects being shaved was also played in court, prompting the judge to question the legality of the action.

“This is a serious mistake. You did well by apprehending those involved in aerial firing, but such actions of public humiliation are unacceptable,” the court remarked.

DIG Faisal Kamran admitted the error and assured the court that such an incident would not be repeated. The judge warned that if any further act of public shaming occurs, it will be officially recorded in the service profile of the responsible officer.

The petitioner’s lawyer criticized the social media conduct of the police, stating, “It seems like these videos are run by TikTokers, not police officials.”

Justice Bajwa emphasized that the court will not tolerate unlawful actions and added, “We don’t want mere attempts; we want results.”

The court has adjourned the hearing until tomorrow, demanding clarity on whether senior officials were aware of the incident beforehand.
