Pattoki man dies after mosque admin electrifies charity box to prevent theft

A young man was electrocuted to death by an iron donation box placed outside a mosque in Pattoki. According to reports, the mosque administration had electrified the charity box to prevent theft.

The incident occurred on Wednesday. Local police registered a case against six members of the mosque administration over the death of Tanveer Akhtar Jan.

A case hwas  registered under Section 322 against mosque committee members Muhammad Aslam, Haji Sabir, Muhammad Ashraf, Muhammad Asghar, Muzammil Hussain, and Muhammad Yasir.

A mosque representative told the media that addicts frequently steal donations from the charity boxes at night, which led the administration to electrify them as a preventive measure.

Tanveer’s family, however, requested the police not to conduct a postmortem or take legal action against anyone. Despite this, the police registered a case based on their complaint.

According to SHO Sadar Pattoki Mian Amin, authorities received a call reporting a body lying at the mosque gate near a graveyard in Chak No 13, Jod Singh Wala village.

A police team arrived at the scene and took the body into custody. Authorities stated that Tanveer likely died from electrocution while attempting to withdraw donation money from the mosque’s iron box.

Officials further revealed that the administrations of five to six mosques and madrasas in the village have been using similar measures and leave live current in metal donation bins at night.
