Karachi police arrested a software engineer allegedly involved in manipulating IMEIs and bypassing the passcodes of stolen mobile phones within the city.
According to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for the district west, the apprehended suspect, identified as Marsal Khan, was operating from a mobile market situated at Metroville Frontier Colony.
The SSP disclosed that Marsal Khan, leveraging his expertise as a software engineer, specialized in altering the IMEIs of high-end stolen mobile devices by replacing them with those from cheaper, malfunctioning phones.
This sophisticated technique enabled him to mask the identity of the stolen devices, making them harder to trace by law enforcement.
In a startling revelation during the interrogation process, the accused admitted to collaborating with robbers, acquiring stolen phones, and subsequently modifying their IMEIs to avoid detection by the authorities.
Following the arrest, law enforcement officials conducted a thorough search of the suspect's premises, resulting in the seizure of various incriminating items.
