Bangladesh claimed a decisive 10-wicket victory against Pakistan in the first Test of the two-match series, held at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Chasing a modest target of 30 runs after bowling Pakistan out for 148 in their second innings, Bangladesh cruised to victory in just 6.3 overs, with Zakir Hasan (15) and Shadman Islam (9) steering the team home with ease.
This victory marks Bangladesh's first-ever Test win against Pakistan, breaking a streak of 12 losses and one draw in their previous 13 encounters.
Earlier on day five, Pakistan resumed play trailing by 94 runs with skipper Shan Masood (9) and Abdullah Shafique (12) at the crease. However, the hosts quickly lost their captain for just 14 runs. Babar Azam entered the fray but was dismissed after scoring 22 runs.
Pakistan's batting lineup struggled, losing wickets at regular intervals, with Saud Shakeel and Salman Ali Agha both failing to score. Mohammad Rizwan, who had top-scored with his career-best figures in the first innings, once again led the hosts with 51 runs.
Bangladesh's bowlers dominated, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz taking four wickets, veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan claiming three, and Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmud, and Nahid Rana each picking up one wicket.
On day four, Bangladesh built a substantial lead of 117 runs by scoring 565 in response to Pakistan's 448/6. Veteran Mushfiqur Rahim was the standout performer, crafting a magnificent 191 off 341 balls, featuring 22 fours and a six.
The day began with Bangladesh at 316-5 in 92 overs, with Mushfiqur (55 off 122) and Liton Das (52 off 58) at the crease. Das was soon dismissed by Naseem Shah, with Mohammad Rizwan taking the catch.
Rahim, however, continued his stellar performance, notching up a century and becoming the third player to reach triple figures in the ongoing Test. He and Miraz put on a formidable partnership that put Pakistan under immense pressure. Rahim narrowly missed out on his fourth double-century, falling nine runs short after being dismissed by Mohammad Ali.
Pakistan eventually wrapped up Bangladesh's innings, with Shaheen Afridi removing Hasan Mahmud and Miraz, and Naseem Shah claiming the wicket of Shoriful Islam, who added a quickfire 22 off 14 balls.
