Pakistan Army, Rangers sought for enhanced security during PSL 10 matches

The Punjab Home Department has formally requested the Ministry of Interior to deploy the Pakistan Army and Rangers for enhanced security during the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL X) matches scheduled in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan.
Terming the tournament a high-profile event due to the participation of international players and officials, the Home Department emphasized the need for stringent security measures to ensure the safety of players, staff, and spectators alike.
According to official correspondence, the Punjab Home Department has sought the deployment of one wing of Rangers personnel and two army companies in each city, tasked with supporting local law enforcement agencies.
Their duties will include securing stadiums, hotels, and team movements, as well as overseeing anti-terrorism protocols.
The deployment has been requested under Article 245 of the Constitution and the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, enabling the military and civil armed forces to assist in internal security duties.

The Cabinet Division, provincial governments, and the Chief Commissioner Islamabad have also supported the call for additional security arrangements, in light of the magnitude and visibility of the event.
PSL X is set to begin on April 11 in Lahore, with the grand final scheduled for May 18 at Gaddafi Stadium, which will host 13 matches, including both Eliminators and the final. Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium will stage 11 matches, including the Qualifier on May 13, while Karachi's National Bank Stadium and Multan Cricket Stadium will each host five matches.
The tournament will also feature three double-headers, two on Saturdays and one on Labour Day (May 1).
With a total of 34 matches between six franchises, PSL X promises to be a landmark edition, and authorities are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring its smooth and secure execution.
