Sarfaraz Ahmed dropped from Pakistan Champions' squad for WCL 2025

Former Pakistan captain and wicketkeeper-batter Sarfaraz Ahmed has been unexpectedly dropped from the Pakistan Champions squad for the upcoming 2025 World Championship of Legends (WCL). The team has already played its opening match against the England Champions.

The development was confirmed by team owner Kamil Khan, who announced a revised squad that notably omitted Sarfaraz. 

The experienced Kamran Akmal has been brought in as his replacement behind the stumps, marking a significant reshuffle in the team’s core.

Adding to the surprises, left-handed batter Fawad Alam has been included in the final squad. Fawad, known for his unconventional technique and grit, will bolster the middle order, providing depth and experience.

The omission of Sarfaraz came as a shock to fans and followers, especially after his inclusion was announced earlier this year. 

In January, the franchise had confirmed his participation via an official video on social media, captioned: "Captain, Leader, Legend! Sarfaraz Ahmed is part of the Pakistan Champions for WCL Season 2."

Sarfaraz, who captained Pakistan to victory in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, was expected to play a vital role in the squad’s leadership group. His sudden exclusion has not yet been officially explained by the management.

Mohammad Hafeez will captain the Pakistan Champions in this year’s edition, taking over from Younis Khan, who led the team to the final in the inaugural WCL season.
