Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has hinted at joining politics as he "wants to serve the people of the country".

"I want to step into politics and do something for Pakistan, but my elders forbid me to join politics," the 47-year-old cricketer said while talking to the media.

"I tell my elders that if people like us do not come into politics then how change will come," he added.

Talking about the recent change in the national team's leadership, Afridi said that he had always advised his son-in-law Shaheen Shah Afridi to keep himself away from the skipper role.

"I always tried to keep Shaheen away from captaincy," the former power-hitter said adding that he advised star pacer to focus on his cricket.

"When Shaheen was offered the captaincy of Lahore Qalandars, I advised him to stay away," Afridi added.

"Shaheen didn't pay attention to my advise," Afridi mentioned.

Earlier on March 31, the Pakistan Cricket Board (BCP) replaced Shaheen with Babar as captain of the white-ball format.

The 29-year-old star player will lead the team in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20Is while Shan Masood will continue as the red-ball skipper.
