Turkish authorities have recovered the black box and cockpit voice recorder from the aircraft crash that killed Libya’s armed forces chief, General Mohammed Ali Ahmed Al-Haddad.

According to Turkish officials, the private Falcon 50 jet departed from Ankara for Tripoli on Tuesday. Shortly after take-off, the aircraft developed a fault in its electrical system.

The pilot requested an emergency landing, but contact with the plane was lost soon afterwards.

The wreckage was later found near the Haymana district, close to Ankara.

Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya told media at the crash site that both the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder have been recovered and analysis has begun.

The Turkish transport minister said the black box would be examined in a neutral country to determine the cause of the crash, adding that the findings would be shared with full transparency.

General Al-Haddad and four of his close aides were killed in the crash. A total of eight people were on board the aircraft, including three crew members.

Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh expressed deep sorrow over the incident.

Turkish officials said rescue and recovery operations are continuing at the site, involving hundreds of personnel, emergency teams, and drones.

The Ankara prosecutor’s office has also launched a formal investigation into the crash.
