In a symbolic protest against Israeli aggression in Gaza and in memory of the children martyred during the ongoing conflict, thousands of children's shoes were laid out on the streets of Almere’s Town Square in the Netherlands.
The powerful visual demonstration was organized to raise awareness about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with participants using empty shoes to represent the innocent lives lost.
This form of protest has become an annual act of solidarity in the Netherlands; last year, a similar event in Rotterdam saw the placement of 8,000 children's shoes in the city's central square by a local organization to highlight global apathy toward Palestinian suffering.
