The US has begun “major combat operations” in Iran, President Trump announced, saying the strikes are aimed at destroying Iranian missiles and crippling its naval forces.
In a video message posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump acknowledged that American casualties are possible but framed the offensive as a “noble mission” for future security. He said the U.S. objective is to “eliminate imminent threats from the Iranian regime” and vowed to “destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground.”
Trump offered members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard and armed forces safe passage if they surrender, warning the alternative is “certain death.” He reiterated longstanding U.S. policy that Iran must never obtain a nuclear weapon and blamed Iranian leaders for years of hostility, support for militant groups, and continued pursuit of nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities.
The announcement follows coordinated strikes with Israel, with explosions reported across Tehran and other cities as both nations targeted military infrastructure. Iranian authorities have signaled potential retaliation, and the situation has raised fears of a wider regional conflict.
Trump’s remarks came after weeks of failed diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran on nuclear issues. He also called on the Iranian people to seize the moment and “take over” their government once the military pressure subsides.
