In a move to boost country's economy, Pakistan will export donkey hides to China, the Secretary of Commerce Ministry confirmed on Wednesday.

"The discussion on donkey skins with China has been settled, but the discussion is still on regarding the meat of donkeys," the Secretary revealed in a briefing to the Senate Trade Committee.

"There is no restriction on the export of donkeys and if anyone wants to export donkeys they can do so," the Commerce ministry representative added.

The official informed that Pakistan has trade officers posted in 70 countries worldwide, with trade-related bodies regulated to facilitate international trade.

New trade missions are set to be opened in Tanzania and Mozambique, while expanding coverage in Eastern Europe.

"Trade offices also planned for Singapore and Vietnam," the secretary added.

Chairperson of the committee, Senator Anusha Rehman, emphasised the need for increased trade efforts in Egypt and Vietnam, where India currently dominates the market.

Pakistan is engaged in bilateral trade with China through the Khunjerab border, with trade also underway with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

The chairman also asked the secretary about trade strategies with the neighbouring countries.

"A framework for border trade has been created and shared with neighboring countries, paving the way for increased regional trade," the official responded.
