In an alarming incident, a ride-hailing service taxi driver in Islamabad allegedly harassed a female customer through the in-app messaging system.
According to a screenshot shared by a social media user Abdul Majeed in the Facebook group "Voice of Customer", the driver, identified as Zeshan, sent inappropriate messages to the woman after she booked a ride on October 9.
As per the screen grab, the conversation began formally, with the driver asking who would be riding.
However, when the woman replied that she would be travelling alone, Zeshan's tone took a darker turn.
He allegedly made lewd messages, inviting her to join him in a room.
The victim's friend shared the disturbing exchange on Facebook to raise awareness and demand action from the ride-hailing company.
The incident has raised concerns about the passengers' safety, who use the online services to commute.
Online taxi companies have a responsibility to ensure their platforms prioritise customer safety and security.
The incident also underlines the need for stricter vetting processes and consequences for drivers who engage in harassment.
